Short Advice on Ramadaan

All praise is for Allâh, the Lord of the Heavens and the Earths and peace and blessings be on His Messenger sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, whom Allâh sent as a Mercy to the world and made him the guide for His creatures.

The Messenger of Allâh sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam was sent as a guide and as a leader to humanity. He guided us to believe in the Oneness of Allâh and ordered us to obey the Commands of Allâh and accept him as the last and final Messenger sent to mankind. Eeman and Islâm represent these two Beliefs.

We Muslims are approaching the blessed days of Ramadhan; we must work hard to please Allâh in these virtuous days of Ramadhan, whilst following the Commands of Allâh and obeying His Messenger sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam.

We should also keep in mind that the worship we undertake in this month is not an easy task to accomplish. In the hot and long days of Ramadhan, we keep ourselves hungry and thirsty from dawn to dusk, hold back our desires and avoid even those matters, which Allâh has made Halaal in the common days. Then in this situation, we accomplish our daily works and spend the day according to the Commands of Allâh. In the evening, after the Suhoor, we await the night not to slip into the bed and rest, but to make the Qiyaam and listen to the Book of Allâh; we thank Allâh and make sujoods unto Him. Then we await the call of adhaan to initiate the great act of worship once again.

All this hard work is done only to please Allâh and with the hope that this act would become a means to our salvation. Indeed, many people put together hard efforts in the month of Ramadhan, BUT who is the one, whose worship will truly benefit him on the Day of Resurrection and protect him from the severe punishments and trials of that Day?

He is the one, who believes in the Oneness of Allâh and does not associate partners with Him, and performs all his worships according to the guidance of Allâh's Messenger, because Allâh says:

"Verily, whosoever sets up partners in worship with Allâh, then Allâh has forbidden Paradise for him, and Fire will be his abode. And for the Zalimun (polytheist and wrong-doers) there are no helpers." [(5): 72]

This was also what Allâh warned his Messengers with, He said:

"But if they had joined in worship others with Allâh, all that they used to do would have been of no benefit to them." [(6): 88]

Similarly, if one performs all his worship with full sincerity but does not abide by the guidance with which the Messenger of Allâh came, then all his worship will become invalid and be of no benefit on the Day of Judgement. Allâh says:

"O you who believe! Obey Allâh and Obey the Messenger and make not vain your deeds." [Soorah Muhammad (47): 33]

We ask Allâh to make all our worships sincerely for His Face and make us strong adherents to the guidance of Allâh's Messenger.

Since the early 1990s Dawud Wharnsby has participated in numerous events and contributed overwhelmingly to the development of educational materials aimed at, or produced by, followers of the Qur'an. However, his song-lyrics, lectures and poetry openly challenge and criticize institutions and movements of organized spirituality. These facts, when factored against misinformation about Wharnsby by unofficial biographers and quotes taken out of context from Wharnsby's numerous interviews, have lead to much controversy as to his religious affiliation.

In 1993, David Wharnsby embraced the teachings and philosophy of the Qur'an, changing his name to "Dawud" (Arabic: داوود‎) - the Arabic form of "David" - and adopted the name "Ali" (Arabic: علي‎) ‎to his surname.

Wharnsby makes a strong differentiation between the application of Qur'anic teachings to his life-style and what he perceives as a general misconception that he "converted" from the "religion" of "Christianity" to the "religion" of "Islam" in 1993.

Rejecting the concept of organized religion in his teens, Wharnsby's music, writings, performances and numerous interviews consistently propagate an opinion that the development of spirituality should be intimate, personal and free of institutionalization.^[6] Wharnsby's views, however, on the implementation of positive social action (inspired by well-balanced spiritual development) should be collective, non-exclusive and community focussed.

Though his writings and life-style openly reflect his respect of scripture, a belief in God, and implementation of Qur'anic teachings, Wharnsby does not consider himself a "member" of any organization, institution, movement or dogmatic school of thought. Since 2005 Dawud Wharnsby has lectured frequently on his personal spiritual philosophy and Qur'anic interpretation which define "islam" as an Arabic verb, derived form the Arabic root word for "peace" (describing and implying the action of "willfully surrendering to God" as a means of achieving and establishing peace holistically in one's life). While Wharnsby has, since 1993, consistently stated public testimonies of belief in One Creator and an acceptance of all prophets named in the Qur'an (Shahada), he has also openly criticized the use of the word "islam" as a noun, or the proper name of a religion, organization and dogmatic institution. While he does not shy away from describing himself as a "muslim"^[7], he has explicitly maintained, in public forums that his acceptance of the title, or personal use of the word "muslim" in relation to himself, is based upon the literal meaning of the Arabic word "muslim" (which he interprets as: "one who surrenders, submits or enters into peace") and does not signify that he accepts all of what has become associated with those who call themselves "Muslims" or to all of the "traditions" associated with the 7th century prophet Muhammad.

Dawud Wharnsby's support of humanitarian efforts world-wide sees him working regularly with diverse institutions rooted in various traditions and faith communities. In the past, Wharnsby has been affiliated with, or assisted in fund raising efforts for, Red Cross/Red Crescent (Qatar/Pakistan), Islamic Relief (U.S./UK), Habitat For Humanity and the Mennonite Central Committee (Canada). Often associated with efforts to fight domestic violence and better the circumstances of women and children, on July 16th, 2008 Dawud Wharnsby and fellow musician Idris Phillips performed at and inaugurated the Anderton Park Children's Center in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

About the Artist:
Shaykh Mishary Rashid Ghareeb Mohammed Rashid Al-Afasy is a Kuwaiti national and was born in 1976. He is married , has two daughters, and he is also nicknamed (Abu Norah).
He studies at The Islamic University in Medina(KSA), College of the Holy Quran and Islamic Studies and specialized in The ten readings and translation of the holy quran. He has read the quran to Sheikh Ahmed Abdulaziz Al-Zaiat born in 1325(H) in the year 1907. Read the whole quran to him Hafs-from-A'sim from Al-Shatebeya, and Sheikh Abraham Ali Shahata Al-Samanodei born in 1333(H)in the year 1915 and who read to him Sheikh Al-Hosiery and Sheikh Mohammad Sadiq Al-Menshawy and Sheikh Mustafa Ishmael and Sheikh Abdulbaset Abduls mad, and he reads to him Fatehat al Kitab and he accepted it, an oral acceptance following the acceptance of his student Sheikh Abulrafea Redwan, and he also read to Sheikh Abdurarea Radwan born in 1351(H)in the year 1932 read to him the whole quran Asm-bin-abialnojoud from Al-Shatebya.

The Story Of Dunya:

Nazeel’s mother was always a source of inspiration for him to pursue creative ways to do good for himself and others. For the last several years, she suffered from a rare illness.

Nevertheless, she continued to encourage him to use his talent in reciting and singing to uplift souls including his own, alongside his other duties. When she was abroad on medical treatment, Nazeel was not able to be with her and take care of her, for a period.

A close friend suggested that he record a song and send it to her as a gift. Nazeel jumped to the idea and recorded one of her favourite songs and sent it. On hearing it, she was deeply affected, and moved to tears.

After returning to the UK for further treatment, she would often ask Nazeel to sing the song to her while she rested, even as she approached her final days. Nazeel’s mother passed away just over a year ago.

Soon more of his close friends listened to the song, and several were moved by the track. Eventually, they persuaded Nazeel to do something more so that others might also benefit in the way they did.
What you have before you is the culmination of that endeavour, Dunya, a powerful collection of songs and recitals about life as a ‘seeker’ aspiring to be at one with the world of God.

In producing Dunya, a rare combination of languages, themes and cultures have come together to reveal a unique expression — one that is sometimes painful, but, at other times, intensely joyful.
